Musa Khan Mosque

Musa Khan Mosque, Mughal mosque at University of Dhaka, Bangladesh

Musa Khan Mosque is a Mughal structure featuring three prominent domes positioned on a vaulted platform within the university campus. The central dome towers above the flanking pair, forming the dominant architectural feature of the building's roofline.

Construction began in 1679 when Diwan Munawar Khan commissioned the building near the burial site of his grandfather Musa Khan. The project reflected Mughal architectural practices that were prominent in Bengal during that era.

The mosque serves as a gathering place for daily prayers and religious observance among students and staff of the university. It remains a center for spiritual practice and community connection within the academic campus.

The building is accessible from the southern entrance of the university campus where rickshaws and local transport are readily available. Visitors should be aware this is an active prayer space where modest dress and respectful behavior are expected.

Underground chambers beneath the raised platform showcase advanced engineering techniques from 17th-century Mughal builders. These rooms provided structural support and may have served secondary functions like storage or burial spaces.
