Kalurghat Bridge

Kalurghat Bridge is a steel structure that crosses the Karnaphuli River using 13 separate spans across its length. The narrow roadway allows limited passage for light vehicles over the river.

The bridge was built in 1930 by British engineers and was originally designed to serve rail traffic between two stations. It was part of the infrastructure developed during the colonial period.

The area around this bridge became a focal point during the independence struggle when a radio station operated from this location. That station served as a vital communication hub for the population during those turbulent years.

The bridge has strict weight limits and is crossed at very low speeds for safety reasons. Visitors should prepare for uneven conditions and confined spaces when using it.
