Padma Division, Administrative division in southern Bangladesh.
Padma Division is an administrative region in southern Bangladesh comprising five districts: Faridpur, Gopalganj, Madaripur, Rajbari, and Shariatpur. Faridpur serves as the administrative center and coordinates governance functions across these five districts.
The region was part of the Gangaridai and Vanga kingdoms in ancient times before falling under the rule of Muslim sultans. This succession of rulers shaped the cultural and political landscape over many centuries.
The division takes its name from the Padma River, which shapes the region's character and influences how people live. The river connects communities and defines the patterns of daily life across the area.
A network of sub-districts allows visitors to explore different parts of the region, with Faridpur serving as the main transport hub. The dry season offers easier access to roads and river crossings throughout the area.
Its establishment in 2021 made it the newest administrative division in Bangladesh, reflecting the country's ongoing geographic reorganization. This restructuring followed decades of administrative consolidation since independence.
