Shaheed Minar, Memorial structure at Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh
Shaheed Minar is a memorial complex featuring seven triangular monuments spread across 108 acres in Savar Upazila. The structures are arranged across the grounds to create distinct viewing areas and spaces for gathering.
The site was established after the 1971 Liberation War and honors those who fought for Bangladesh's independence. The earlier language movement of the 1950s influenced how this memorial was conceived.
On February 21st, people gather here to remember those who died defending the Bengali language during the independence struggle.
The site is easiest to reach by taking buses or taxis from Dhaka along the Dhaka-Aricha road. Visiting in early morning offers a calmer experience for viewing the grounds.
Below ground, a gallery features wall murals depicting key events and figures from the independence struggle. This underground space creates an intimate setting for reflection within the larger memorial complex.
