Baraque de Fraiture, Ski resort at Vielsalm, Belgium
Baraque de Fraiture is a ski resort located on the Plateau des Tailles in Luxembourg province. The site offers three runs for skiers and snowboarders at varying difficulty levels.
The location was captured by the 5th Panzer Division during May 1940 as part of the German advance toward the Meuse River near Dinant. This high point held strategic value for controlling troop movements in the region.
The location marks the natural border between the River Ourthe and Amblève basins, representing the geographical division of two distinct water systems.
The location sits on a plateau and is best visited during winter months when snow conditions allow. Visitors should be flexible with timing, as the season depends heavily on weather conditions.
Despite brief winter conditions, this is Belgium's highest location for winter sports and maintains snow better than lower elevations nearby. The elevated plateau position helps preserve snow longer throughout the season.
