De Vroente

De Vroente is a visitor center at the entrance of Kalmthout Heath, offering information about the surrounding natural landscape and local environment. The building provides views across the heathland and serves as a starting point for exploring the network of trails.

The center was established to document the evolution of Kalmthout Heath and record changes in plant and animal life over time. Since then it has played an important role in tracking and understanding how this landscape has transformed.

The building serves as a gathering place where locals and visitors learn about the heathlands through exhibitions and educational programs. People come here to understand how the natural area around them has developed and why it matters.

The center is currently closed for renovations and will reopen in spring 2025. In the meantime, visitors can use the walking trails around the heath and access other nature observation areas nearby.

The center provides specialized wheelchairs and adapted paths that allow people with mobility limitations to explore the heath independently. This equipment makes the natural setting accessible to everyone.
