Kasteel Ter Dolen

Kasteel Ter Dolen is a castle with a functioning brewery in Houthalen-Helchteren, featuring stone walls arranged around a central courtyard. The grounds contain multiple buildings that blend older architectural styles with more recent brewery operations and facilities.

The site was built in the 16th century as a residence for abbots of a Benedictine monastery, serving religious purposes for centuries. In the 1990s it became a private brewery operation, which continues to occupy the grounds today.

The brewery creates beers using traditional Belgian methods, producing light lagers, darker varieties, and fruit-based versions. These drinks reflect the abbey roots of the place and draw people together to taste and learn about local brewing.

The site is open on weekends for tours and tastings, with guided visits available at regular times. No special knowledge is needed to enjoy a visit, though the tasting experience centers on beer products.

The site features a pub where visitors can relax with beer in a comfortable setting, with a special fireplace experience available during colder months. This addition makes the place more than just a brewery operation.
