Château de Moha, Medieval castle ruin in Wanze, Belgium.

Description

Château de Moha is a stone fortress located where the Mehaigne and Fosseroule rivers meet. The castle retains old walls and foundations that now sit within a natural park setting.

History

The fortress was built in the 11th century to serve the Counts of Moha and the Prince-Bishops of Liège as a stronghold. In 1376, people from the city of Huy captured it, after which the site lost its military importance.

Culture

The castle grounds host events where visitors can see medieval crafts and learn about local customs practiced in the region. You can observe authentic portrayals of how people lived during earlier periods.

Practical

The site is easy to reach during warmer months and offers walking paths through nature. Wear comfortable shoes because the ground is uneven and there are several slopes.

Did you know?

The site features a puzzle experience set in an old library where visitors can solve mysteries. Guests can also take rides on vintage rail carts along historic tracks through the valley.
