Forest park, Protected heritage park in Forest district, Belgium.
Forest Park is a protected heritage site spanning about 13 hectares across the Forest and Saint-Gilles districts, offering a mix of different landscape types. The grounds include walking paths, children's play areas, and sports facilities designed to serve various recreational needs.
Victor Besme designed this space in 1882 as part of Brussels' urban development plan, creating a natural link between neighboring districts. From the start it was conceived as public green space for community use.
The park has served as a gathering place for residents of both neighborhoods since it was created and remains central to local community life. Visitors can observe how people use the space for everyday activities like walking, playing sports, and socializing outdoors.
The site is easily accessible through several entrances along Avenue des Villas and Avenue du Mont Kemmel, giving visitors direct access to different areas. Weekends or early evening are good times to visit, when the park is active yet still offers space to walk and observe the various facilities.
The park hosts unexpected colonies of parakeets living in the pine trees, bringing an element of wild nature to this urban space. These birds are particularly visible and vocal during dawn and dusk hours as they move between the trees.
