Plovdiv

Plovdiv is a city in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, located on both banks of the Maritsa River in the southern part of the country. The settlement extends across several hills and connects residential districts with commercial areas and public green spaces.

The area has been inhabited since prehistoric times and later became a trading center at the crossroads between Europe and Asia. Over the centuries, the city changed hands multiple times between different empires and states.

The Roman Theater from the 2nd century remains operational for performances, while the Ethnographic Museum displays 40,000 artifacts related to Bulgarian traditions.

Visitors reach the city by train, bus, or car via the main highway connecting Sofia with the south. Public buses and trolleybuses operate within the city, and the center is easy to explore on foot.

On the main street, a mosque stands next to a synagogue, just steps away from several Christian churches. This proximity reflects the long history of coexistence among different communities.
