Sveti Vlas, city in Nesebar municipality, Burgas oblast, Bulgaria
Sveti Vlas is a small seaside town on Bulgaria's Black Sea coast where mountains slope gently toward the water. Its roughly 1.5 km stretch of fine golden beach is framed by modern facilities including Marina Dinevi, which holds around 300 yachts and sits directly beside Sunny Beach.
The town was originally founded in the 14th century by the Thracians and was once called Larissa. It once had four churches that were destroyed in the 17th century, though the small Church of Saint Vlas just outside the town center still stands as a reminder of its religious past.
The town's name honors Saint Vlas, a local patron of merchants and farmers in the tradition. Evenings here revolve around strolling the waterfront and gathering in cafes for fresh fish and conversation, a rhythm that defines daily life in the community.
The beaches are free to enter and open to everyone, where you can relax with your own umbrella and towel or rent sunbeds and umbrellas. The town stays lively throughout the year with shops, restaurants, and medical clinics open, making it suitable for both summer holidays and quieter seasons.
The town is known for its exceptionally clean, pollen-free climate created by air currents between the mountains and sea, drawing many people with respiratory concerns. Historically it was a sanatorium center for sick children, and this healing quality of the air remains one of the place's special characteristics today.
