Pomorie

Pomorie is a seaside resort on a narrow peninsula in Burgas Bay that extends about 3.5 kilometers into the Black Sea. Sandy beaches line both sides of the landform, while the salt lake adjacent to the settlement creates a distinctive water landscape.

Greek colonists founded the settlement in the 5th century BC, and it later became a significant trade hub under Roman rule. Salt extraction here reaches back to ancient times and has continued through many centuries of occupation.

Salt production has shaped daily life here for thousands of years, and you can still see traditional methods being used in the shallow ponds of the salt lake. The local economy and community rhythm remain tied to this ancient craft.

The location has good transport connections to other Bulgarian cities, and Burgas Airport is about 8 kilometers away. The long peninsula can be explored on foot, making it easy to visit both beaches and see the salt lake area.

The adjacent salt lake is so concentrated that it produces therapeutic mud used in local spa treatments today. It also serves as a critical stopping point for migrating birds traveling between continents along the Via Pontica route.
