Church of the Assumption, Eastern Orthodox church in Uzundzhovo, Bulgaria.
The Church of the Assumption is a stone building in Uzundzhovo that combines features of Ottoman and Byzantine architecture. Large domes and geometric patterns mark both the exterior walls and interior spaces.
The building originally stood as a mosque during Ottoman rule. After Bulgaria's liberation, it was transformed into an Eastern Orthodox church and consecrated in 1906.
The building shows how Ottoman and Orthodox traditions exist together in its walls and decorations. Visitors can see these layers from different periods mixed throughout the interior.
The main entrance is on the western side of the building and provides regular access for visitors and religious services. It helps to allow time to examine both the interior and exterior walls carefully.
The building was designed following plans rooted in the work of the renowned architect Mimar Sinan. This connection to one of the Ottoman Empire's greatest architectural figures remains visible in the skilled craftsmanship today.
