Зоопарк "Хасково"
The Haskovo Zoo is a facility set within Knena park's broadleaf forests, featuring separate sections for herbivores, predators, monkeys, rodents, waterbirds, and birds of prey. Simple pathways connect the different enclosures, allowing visitors to move around easily and observe the animals at close range.
The zoo was founded in 1958 by Ivan Gospodinov, starting with small sections for bears, deer, and roe deer. It expanded to occupy 12 hectares by 1977, becoming an established community institution.
The zoo serves the local community as a gathering place where families and visitors spend leisure time together. It plays a role in helping people connect with animals and learn about nature conservation through direct observation and experience.
The zoo operates most of the year except during the coldest months, and is open from morning through afternoon hours. Visitors are encouraged to bring water and sun protection, especially during summer, and to allow ample time for exploring the different sections.
The zoo features local Bulgarian animal species alongside other animals, giving visitors insight into the region's natural fauna. Many residents come to see native creatures they might not encounter elsewhere, making it a window into the local ecosystem.
