Baikushev's pine, Ancient coniferous tree in Pirin Mountains, Bulgaria.
The Bosnian pine stands 26 meters tall with a diameter of 2.48 meters at an elevation of 1930 meters near Bansko in southwestern Bulgaria.
Forest ranger Kostadin Baikushev discovered and measured this specimen during a scientific expedition with Prince Ferdinand of Bulgaria in 1897.
The tree represents a connection to Bulgarian heritage, dating back to the time of Khan Asparukh, the founder of the First Bulgarian Empire.
Visitors can reach the tree by following marked trails from Banderitsa refuge, located 300 meters away from this natural monument.
Scientific analysis using a Pressler borer revealed that this Pinus heldreichii specimen has lived through more than 1300 years of Bulgarian history.
