Belogradchik Fortress, Ancient fortress and museum in Belogradchik, Bulgaria.

Belogradchik Fortress is a fortified settlement featuring stone walls divided into multiple enclosed courtyards connected by gateways. The construction takes advantage of natural rock formations on two sides, which serve as part of the defensive barrier.

Roman soldiers first built this fortress, and it was later expanded by Bulgarian Tsar Ivan Stratsimir in the 14th century. His additions strengthened the defensive capabilities with new fortified sections.

The fortress displays architectural styles from four different civilizations that left their mark on this place. Walking through it, you can see how each group shaped the walls and layout according to their own methods.

The site is straightforward to navigate, with clear paths connecting the different courtyards and sections. Information markers are placed at various points to help you find your way and understand what you are seeing.

The fortress integrates natural rock outcrops directly into its structure, particularly on the northwest and southeast sides. This created an unusual design where the landscape itself became part of the defensive walls.
