Saeva dupka cave, Show cave in Brestnitsa, Bulgaria
Saeva dupka is a show cave near Brestnitsa featuring five connected chambers filled with stalactites and stalagmites. The underground system reaches about 520 meters in elevation and spans several hundred meters through the mountain.
The cave shows evidence of continuous human presence from Roman times, with archaeological finds including Roman coins and pottery fragments. These discoveries indicate the site was used over many centuries.
The main hall is regularly used for choral performances and traditional Bulgarian music events because of its natural acoustic properties. The underground space creates a special setting for musical presentations.
The interior stays between 7 and 11 degrees Celsius year-round, so warm clothing is recommended for your visit. The guided tour lasts about 30 minutes and takes you through all the main chambers.
This cave is home to Bulgaria's only known collection of tilted stalactites, which formed due to constant air currents flowing through the underground chambers. This unusual geological feature is found nowhere else in the country.
