Boatin Biosphere Reserve

Boatin Biosphere Reserve is a protected area in the Balkan Mountains that covers mountainous terrain covered with dense forests. It contains numerous native plant and animal species that have adapted to these high-elevation woodland environments.

The area received protected status in 1948 as Bulgaria sought to safeguard the natural habitats of the Balkan region. This designation reflected growing recognition of the need to preserve these mountain ecosystems for future generations.
