Dushantsi Reservoir, lake in Bulgaria
Dushantsi Reservoir is a dam reservoir in the Zlatitsa-Pirdop Valley in central Bulgaria, fed by the Topolnitsa River. It sits between the Balkan Mountains to the north and the Sredna Gora range to the south, giving it a sheltered position in the valley.
The reservoir was built during the 20th century as part of Bulgaria's national programs to manage water supply and irrigation in the region. The dam permanently altered the course of the Topolnitsa River, shaping the landscape of the whole valley in the process.
The reservoir serves as a gathering place where locals and visitors spend leisure time and connect with the natural landscape. People use the banks for picnics, fishing, and quiet moments of reflection, showing how important this spot is to the rhythm of daily life in the region.
The dam sits close to the main road linking Sofia and Burgas, making it easy to reach by car. A visit in the warmer months is more comfortable, as mountain roads in the area can be affected by snow or ice in colder seasons.
Although the reservoir sits close to a busy highway toward Burgas, it is barely visible from the road, so many travelers pass by without noticing it. Those who stop find a calm stretch of water with almost no tourist activity around it.
