The museum occupies the former Battenberg Palace building, featuring seven permanent exhibitions across multiple locations, including three open-air archaeological sites.
Founded in 1904, the institution started with archaeological collections from Karel and Hermenguild Shkorpil, along with naturalist Vasil Kovachev's contributions.
The museum displays 140,000 artifacts, including prehistoric pottery, medieval frescoes, and the fourth-century BC Borovo Treasure gold-plated silver wine set.
Located at Alexander Battenberg Square 3 in Ruse, the museum welcomes visitors every day from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
The collection includes a lower jaw of Mammuthus rumanus and a bronze helmet from the fourth century BC potentially belonging to Alexander the Great's army.
