Kaliopa House, 19th-century urban lifestyle museum in Ruse, Bulgaria.
Kaliopa House is a two-story residential building on Tsar Ferdinand Boulevard that displays 19th-century urban life in Ruse. The rooms feature marble columns, wooden wall panels, and period furnishings that show how affluent residents lived during that era.
The house was built in 1864 for Maria Kalisch, wife of the Prussian consul. It later underwent renovation in 1896 when decorative frescoes were added to the upper floor.
The house displays clothing, jewelry, and tableware from the 1800s that show how European styles influenced urban life in Bulgaria at that time. Visitors can see how affluent families decorated their homes and dressed during this period.
The museum is open from Tuesday through Sunday and visitors navigate through multiple rooms spread across two floors. It helps to allow time for exploring each exhibition space, as the rooms contain detailed objects and information displays.
The house contains a Viennese piano that was imported from Austria in the 1800s and was the first such instrument brought to Bulgaria. This piece reveals how connected affluent families were to European culture at that time.
