National Transport Museum

The National Transport Museum occupies Bulgaria's first railway station building and displays locomotives, train cars, and other transport equipment both indoors and outdoors. The collection includes ten steam engines with the oldest from 1868, along with specialized mail transport equipment and various railroad artifacts.

The railway station building was constructed between 1863 and 1866 and served as a key junction on the route connecting London to Istanbul. This line linked Ruse with Varna and made the city an important hub for international rail traffic.

The museum displays royal carriages once used by King Ferdinand I and King Boris III, showing how important transport was to Bulgaria's leaders. These vehicles reflect the central role railways played in connecting the nation's most powerful people.

The museum is located near the city center and displays its collections in both indoor galleries and on outdoor grounds that are easy to navigate. Visitors should allow time to explore both areas, as the exhibition contains many details to observe.

The building was constructed from local white limestone and has served as a filming location for several Bulgarian films. This role in cinema history gives the place an additional layer of character that visitors can sense.
