Raysko Praskalo, Waterfall in Central Balkan National Park, Bulgaria
Raysko Praskalo is a waterfall in Central Balkan National Park, Bulgaria, that drops from a height of 124.5 meters (408 feet) beneath Botev Peak. The water falls in a narrow vertical cascade over smooth rock faces and forms a small pool at the base.
The area around the waterfall belonged for centuries to remote mountain pastures that shepherds from Kalofer used during summer months. Access became easier in the 20th century when marked hiking trails were established as the national park was created.
The name combines two Bulgarian words that together mean „heavenly sprinkler
The marked trail from Kalofer to Rai Hut takes several hours and passes through steep sections with rocky terrain. An overnight stay at the hut makes it easier to visit early in the morning when fewer hikers are on the trail.
The flow increases noticeably during summer when snowfields on Botev melt and feed the Praskalska stream. This stream later joins the Byala Reka and contributes to the water supply of several villages downstream.
