Kalugerovo Monastery

Kalugerovo Monastery is an Orthodox monastery complex in Lesichovo, Pazardzhik Province, situated at the foot of Zmeyovets hill near the Trakiya motorway. The site contains several religious buildings arranged within a natural setting, featuring traditional Bulgarian ecclesiastical architecture.

The monastery was established in 1533 when monks known as kalugers founded this Christian sanctuary dedicated to Saint Nicholas. This founding date represents the beginning of a long continuous history as a significant religious center in the region.

The monastery serves as a pilgrimage site dedicated to the Virgin Mary and draws faithful visitors seeking spiritual connection today. Pilgrims can experience the devotional atmosphere within the decorated spaces and witness the Eastern Orthodox traditions that continue in this sacred place.

The monastery grounds hold an ancient Roman stone fountain called Ognyanka, providing evidence of Roman settlement in the area. Additionally, a military column stands on the property bearing inscriptions from several Roman emperors that reflect the region's long history.
