Paleontology museum of Asenovgrad, Natural history museum in Asenovgrad, Bulgaria
The museum exhibits 35,000 fossil specimens, including complete skeletons of ancient horses and the saber-toothed cat Machairodus major from the late Miocene period.
The institution opened on February 22, 1990, evolving from a school collection gathered by biology teacher Dimitar Kovachev through numerous paleontological expeditions in the region.
The museum functions as a branch of the National Museum of Natural History at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, advancing scientific education in the region.
Located in central Asenovgrad, the museum welcomes visitors from Tuesday through Friday between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM, with Saturday hours until 4:00 PM.
The institution holds one of the largest collections globally of Pikermian hipparion fauna, featuring a notable replica of the Deinotherium gigantissimum skeleton.
