Dzhano, Mountain summit in Pirin range, Bulgaria
Dzhano is a mountain summit in the Pirin range that rises to 2685 meters and features moraine-covered slopes alongside a rocky ridge connecting to the Chengelchal peak. The terrain around it includes various elevation changes and different ground conditions that shape the hiking experience.
The peak originated during the Bulgarian Revival period when authorities attempted to rename it to Orlovets, but local populations rejected this designation. The name Dzhano prevailed and continues to be used by mountaineers today.
The mountain serves as a landmark for Bulgarian hikers who navigate the narrow ridge locally called Small Konche.
Reaching this summit requires proper hiking gear and good fitness levels because the route presents varying degrees of difficulty. Plan your visit during warmer months when conditions are more stable for mountain travel.
On the northeast side of the peak stands a side ridge called Dzhangalitsa that forms a distinctive landscape together with the neighboring Sivriya peak and several mountain lakes. This particular arrangement is often overlooked by visitors exploring the area.
