Kamenitsa Peak, Mountain summit in Blagoevgrad Province, Bulgaria.
Kamenitsa Peak is a mountain summit in the Pirin range standing at about 2,822 meters (9,259 feet) with exposed granite blocks covered in lichens. It extends along a 22-kilometer secondary ridge and features several distinctive rock formations.
The name comes from the Bulgarian word for stone fields, referring to the extensive moraines that accumulated below the northern face over geological time. This collection of rocky debris reveals the long history of glacier movement in the area.
The peak is part of Bulgaria's active mountaineering culture, where climbers track their ascents through various challenge programs. This tradition connects people who return to the Pirin mountains year after year.
The main routes start from Tevno Ezero shelter and follow mostly unmarked paths through the mountains. Visitors should prepare for steep sections and bring weather-resistant gear along with solid navigation skills.
A distinctive rock formation called Kamenishka Kukla on the western side reaches about 2,717 meters (8,913 feet) and creates a memorable silhouette against the sky. This striking pinnacle is visible from various viewpoints across the range.
