Хан на хаджи Николи, Hotel and museum complex in Samovodska Charshia, Bulgaria
Han na Hadji Nikolli is a merchant inn with three wings built from stone, brick, and iron in the Samovodska Charshia district. The spaces now function as a museum, restaurant, and wine bar.
The building was constructed between 1858 and 1862 by architect Kolyu Ficheto for merchant Hadji Nikoli Mincholu. It originally served as a storage facility for goods from Western Europe.
The building reflects the tradition of merchants who connected Western Europe with the East. Visitors can see today how these spaces were used for trade and exchange.
The location sits centrally in the old merchant quarter and is easily reached on foot. The interior courtyard provides shelter from weather while exhibitions remain accessible year-round.
It is the only surviving merchant house from about 70 similar buildings that stood in the city during the Bulgarian National Revival period. Its architecture still shows today how wealthy merchants designed their homes during this era.
