Persinski Blata

Persinski Blata is a protected wetland reserve on Belene Island containing marshes, standing water, and areas of grassland along the Danube. The terrain includes patches of willow and poplar forest mixed with reed beds and open water channels throughout.

The reserve was established in 1981 to protect wetland areas along the Danube. It later became integrated into a larger regional conservation network that expanded safeguards for the area.

This place draws birdwatchers from across the region who come to observe species that depend on wetland habitats. The reserve shows visitors how water and forest create living spaces for animals that would not survive elsewhere.

Waterproof footwear is essential as the ground remains muddy throughout most of the year. Plan your visit during warmer months when paths are more passable and conditions are more comfortable for walking.

The site serves as a critical refuge for threatened bird species including white-tailed eagles and black storks. These large birds depend on the forested sections for nesting and hunting during migration seasons.
