Свети Николай, Orthodox church in central Varna, Bulgaria
The St. Nicholas Church features a cross-domed architecture with a single cupola, three apses, and a low bell tower above the entrance to the naos.
Built between 1859 and 1865 with funds from merchant Paraskeva Nikolau, the church initially operated under Greek jurisdiction until Bulgarian priests took over in 1906.
In 1961, renowned artists Nikola Kozhuharov, Dimitar Gyudzhenov, Petar Dzhamdzhiev, and Petar Mihaylov decorated the interior walls with religious frescoes.
Located at 35 Knyaz Boris I Boulevard, the church maintains regular daily visiting hours from 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM throughout the year.
The church holds the distinction of being Bulgaria's only maritime temple, confirmed after an icon was taken to the Holy Sepulchre and returned consecrated in 1927.
