Свети Николай

Sveti Nikolay is an Orthodox church in central Varna featuring a cross-domed design topped with a single cupola and three apses. The structure includes a modest bell tower positioned above the entrance to the main worship space.

Construction took place between 1859 and 1865 with funding from a wealthy merchant, and the church initially operated under Greek ecclesiastical authority. Bulgarian clergy assumed leadership in the early 1900s.

The church is dedicated to Saint Nicholas, protector of seafarers, which reflects its deep connection to the city's maritime heritage and identity. Visitors can sense this spiritual tradition in the decorated interior and the way locals regard this place.

Four renowned artists decorated the interior with religious frescoes during the 1960s, creating vibrant wall paintings that remain a focal point for visitors. These artworks showcase the artistic skill and devotion of that era.
