House-museum "Ivan Vazov", Sofia

The House-museum Ivan Vazov is a restored residence from the early 20th century in central Sofia where the renowned writer lived. The rooms display his desk, book collection, and various personal objects from his daily life.

The house was built in 1895 and remained Vazov's residence until his death in 1921. It was converted five years later into Bulgaria's first literary museum to preserve his legacy.

The rooms celebrate Ivan Vazov, one of Bulgaria's most important writers whose works shaped national identity. Personal items and manuscripts on display show his connection to Bulgarian literary life and his influence on readers.

The house is located centrally in Sofia on Ivan Vazov Street and is easily reached on foot from major neighborhoods. The rooms are spread across several floors, so plan about one to one and a half hours for a comfortable visit.

The museum displays an unusual exhibit: the preserved remains of Bobby, Vazov's pet dog, showing how deeply the writer cherished his companion. This curious display reveals the strong personal attachments Vazov had to those close to him.
