Ponte Eusébio Matoso, Road bridge across Pinheiros River in São Paulo, Brazil
Ponte Eusébio Matoso is a road bridge crossing the Pinheiros River and connecting the Pinheiros and Butantã districts in São Paulo. The structure spans about 300 meters and is supported by concrete pillars.
Construction of the bridge began in 1936 and the initial structure opened in 1940 to cross the Pinheiros River. The current configuration was completed in 1987 following major renovations.
The bridge honors Eusébio de Queirós Matoso, a Brazilian Imperial Justice Minister who enacted laws to stop African slave trafficking in Brazil. His name reflects a pivotal figure in the country's abolition movement.
The bridge links Eusébio Matoso Avenue to Francisco Morato Avenue, providing a main connection between central São Paulo and western areas like Osasco and Carapicuíba. Access is straightforward via these two principal streets.
The bridge undergoes regular load testing using trucks to verify its safety and structural integrity. These tests include both static and dynamic assessments of the structure.
