Scotiabank Arena, Sports arena in Old Toronto, Canada
Scotiabank Arena is a designated heritage property and large indoor venue in Old Toronto hosting professional ice hockey, basketball, and international concerts. The structure rises over several floors and holds up to 19,800 visitors depending on the event configuration.
The site once held the Toronto Postal Delivery Building from 1941, an Art Deco administrative structure. In the late 1990s, conversion and expansion transformed it into the current sports and entertainment hall, which opened in February 1999.
The home venue takes its name from a major Canadian bank and stands as a modern multi-purpose facility in the heart of downtown. On game nights and concert evenings, surrounding streets fill with fans wearing team jerseys and visitors heading toward the entrance.
Access is available through an underground walkway that connects directly to Union Station, offering links to subway, regional trains, and buses. For major events, arriving early is advisable as entrance areas become crowded.
Parts of the original 1940s facade were retained during conversion and incorporated into the modern construction. Elements of the former postal building remain visible on the outer walls, recalling the earlier function.
