RBC WaterPark Place, Office building in Toronto, Canada.
RBC WaterPark Place is a 30-story office tower on the waterfront in Toronto, Canada. The tower rises from a seven-story podium at its base, which holds retail shops and dining areas at street level.
Oxford Properties Group began construction in 2011 and completed the tower in 2014. It was built as part of a broader effort to develop Toronto's waterfront into a mixed-use urban district.
The ground-level shops and eateries serve the daily routines of people working in the area, giving the base of the tower a lively weekday rhythm. On warmer days, the open-air seating on the second floor draws workers outside during lunch breaks.
The building connects to Union Station through Toronto's underground PATH walkway, so getting to public transit stays dry regardless of weather. Visitors arriving by foot from the street will find the main entrance facing the lake on Queens Quay.
The glass fins on the tower's facade are angled to redirect sunlight at different times of day, cutting the need for artificial cooling and lighting inside. This design choice earned the building a LEED Platinum rating, one of the top environmental certifications for construction.
