Churchill, Arctic port town in northern Manitoba, Canada
Located on the western shore of Hudson Bay, Churchill features tundra landscapes where polar bears and beluga whales frequent the coastal waters.
The Hudson Bay Company established Churchill River Post in 1717 as a fur trading settlement, which later developed into Prince of Wales Fort.
The Chipewyan and Cree peoples maintained their traditional hunting practices in the Churchill region long before European settlement arrived.
Visitors can reach Churchill exclusively by air through scheduled flights or by rail service from Thompson, as no roads connect to the settlement.
The Churchill Northern Studies Centre provides research facilities for scientists studying Arctic wildlife, climate patterns, and northern astronomy.
