Stony Rapids, Northern hamlet in Saskatchewan, Canada
Located on Lake Athabasca's east end, Stony Rapids stands 82 kilometers south of the Northwest Territories border along the Fond du Lac River.
Established as a post office in 1937, Stony Rapids developed into a transportation center connecting multiple communities across northern Saskatchewan through waterways and air routes.
The settlement carries different names in Indigenous languages, with Chipewyan speakers using Deschaghe and Woods Cree speakers referring to it as asinîwi-pâwistikohk.
The Stony Rapids Airport and Water Aerodrome provide year-round access, while an unpaved road connects to Points North Landing and Highway 905.
Temperature records show extreme variations from 39.8°C in June 2021 to -50.6°C in January 1966, demonstrating the region's intense climate fluctuations.
