Oakville Assembly, automobile factory in Oakville, Ontario, Canada
Oakville Assembly is a large factory in Oakville, Ontario, where Ford vehicles are built. The plant contains assembly stations, conveyor belts, and approximately 440 robots that work alongside human workers to systematically put vehicles together.
The factory began operations in 1953 as a Ford production facility in Canada. Over the decades, it has been upgraded multiple times, most notably with a major investment around 2008 to enable the production of newer vehicles such as crossover SUVs.
The location is easily visible from the highway and sits next to the Lakeshore West rail line, which enables efficient transport of parts and finished vehicles. Visiting requires permission and advance planning, as it is an active workplace operating on shifts during daytime hours.
The factory can produce between 200,000 and 210,000 vehicles annually and is flexible enough to switch quickly between different vehicle types. Ford has announced that the plant will also manufacture electric vehicles and batteries starting around 2025.
