Saint Mary's University is a public university in the South End of Halifax with a campus of about 32 hectares featuring academic buildings, research facilities, and student residences. The university was founded in 1802 by the Roman Catholic Church and received degree-granting status in 1840. It transitioned to a secular institution in 1970.
