Chisasibi T.II

Chisasibi T.II is a Cree territory on the eastern shore of James Bay, spanning a large area with distinct administrative buildings and residential zones. The settlement serves as the economic and social hub for the people who live there.

The location was abandoned after an epidemic in 1942 and later relocated entirely as part of a major hydroelectric development in the 1970s. The community moved from an island to the southern shore of a large river at that time.

The territory maintains strong connections to Cree traditions, with 81 percent of residents speaking Cree as their primary language in daily communications and governance.

The settlement is accessible by paved road and lies several dozen kilometers from the nearest larger town. Visitors should prepare for a remote setting where services may be limited.

This northernmost road-accessible Cree settlement in eastern North America connects to civilization through a 90-kilometer paved route from the town of Radisson.
