Etobicoke—Lakeshore, Federal electoral district in southern Etobicoke, Canada
Etobicoke–Lakeshore is a federal electoral district along Lake Ontario's shoreline in western Toronto, covering the former neighborhoods of Mimico, New Toronto, and Long Branch. The area stretches between the Humber River on the west and Mimico Creek on the east.
The electoral district was created in 1976 following changes to the former York-Humber riding, and was initially called Toronto-Lakeshore. It adopted its current name to reflect the shift in boundaries and the integration of the area into the broader Etobicoke municipality.
The area is home to many residents with Eastern European heritage, who have shaped the local shops, restaurants, and community life. You'll notice this influence in how neighborhoods feel and what you find on the streets.
The area is well connected by public transit, with streetcar and bus lines running through main streets and neighborhoods. The best time to explore is from May through October when weather is mild and waterfront paths are most active.
The district witnessed an unusual political moment in 1988 when the Liberal candidate Emmanuel Feuerwerker withdrew just days before the federal election. This left the party without anyone on the ballot, making the election one of the few times this had happened in Canadian electoral history.
