Mimico Centennial Library, Public library in Mimico district, Toronto, Canada
Mimico Centennial Library is a modern library building located at 47 Station Road in the Mimico district. The facility includes reading spaces, community meeting rooms, and computer workstations for visitors to use.
The library began in 1915 as Mimico Carnegie Library with support from the Carnegie Corporation program. The current building was constructed and opened in 1966, replacing the original structure.
The library holds collections in French, Polish, and Russian, reflecting the diverse communities in the neighborhood. These language collections show how the space serves people from different backgrounds.
Free parking is available behind the building, and visitors can use internet access and Microsoft Office workstations at no cost. The reading areas have capacity for roughly 105 people, so visiting during quieter daytime hours tends to be more comfortable.
The building received the Massey Medal for Architecture in 1966 and stands as a notable example of mid-century institutional design in Canada. This recognition highlights the building's architectural importance beyond its role as a library.
