Camp White Pine, Summer camp at Hurricane Lake in Haliburton, Canada
Camp White Pine is a summer camp on waterfront property designed to accommodate up to 600 people in rustic cabins, with recreational facilities and sports fields distributed across the grounds. The layout includes designated areas for various age groups and activities spread along the shoreline.
Joseph Kronick founded the camp in 1956 on the site of the former Highland Lodge. His son Adam took over leadership in 1986 and continued developing the facility.
The camp organizes children into age-grouped sections named after animals such as Kiwis, Koalas, Blue Dolphins, Red Dolphins, Gnus, and Training Village. This structure creates smaller communities within the larger camp where children bond and build friendships during their time here.
Summer program registration opens in September for those planning to attend, while the venue operates as a rental facility during spring and fall seasons. Visitors should book well in advance since popular dates fill up quickly.
The 1979 film Meatballs starring Bill Murray was filmed here, with the camp serving as the fictional Camp North Star on screen. Film enthusiasts often visit to see the actual locations where those iconic scenes were shot.
