Confederation Line, Light rail line in Ottawa, Canada
The Confederation Line is a light rail route in Ottawa, Canada, that crosses the downtown core and links eastern and western parts of the city. It runs partly underground through the center and partly at surface level in outer areas, with stops at key hubs.
Work began in the early 2010s as part of a larger plan to modernize public transit in the capital. The route opened to passengers in the late 2010s and replaced earlier bus routes through the core.
This rail service links residential neighborhoods with government districts and allows people to move across the city without needing a car. Many use it daily to reach workplaces or leisure destinations along its route.
Trains run regularly and the journey from one end to the other takes less than half an hour. Stations have elevators and escalators to help with access.
Part of the route runs through the Rideau Canal tunnel, which passes beneath the frozen waterway where people skate in winter. The underground section allows the line to cross under the historic canal without disturbing the surface.
