Experimental Station Suffield, Military research facility in southeastern Alberta, Canada

Experimental Station Suffield is a Canadian military facility in southeastern Alberta that sprawls across an enormous semi-arid landscape. The site contains training zones, research laboratories, and testing grounds dedicated to defense purposes.

The facility was founded in 1941 to research chemical weapons during World War II, initially operating under British command. After the war, the location evolved into a research and training station with international scope.

The base serves as a meeting point for Canadian and British military personnel who train and work side by side. This international cooperation shapes the daily life on the grounds.

Visitors should know that the grounds are very large and most areas are not open to the public. Those who wish to visit should contact the military base in advance to clarify access and regulations.

The grounds were converted after the war into a training area for British forces and now serves under the name BATUS as a tank training facility. Tank crews from several countries regularly train here across the open landscape.
