Ivanhoe Lake Provincial Park

Ivanhoe Lake Provincial Park, Provincial park in Sudbury District, Canada

Ivanhoe Lake Provincial Park is a nature reserve in the Sudbury District covering approximately 7,700 hectares with multiple lakes set within glacially shaped terrain. The park features sandy shorelines, forest trails, camping areas, and a natural wetland system supporting diverse plant life.

The reserve was established in 1957 to protect an area previously shaped by mining and timber operations that used lake systems for moving logs. Park designation transformed the landscape from resource extraction to recreation and conservation.

The park draws people seeking summer outdoor recreation through camping, fishing, and lake activities typical of Canadian wilderness experiences. These natural spaces serve as gathering places where visitors find connection to the boreal landscape and its rhythms.

The site is open from May through September with amenities including electrical hookups at campsites, shower facilities, and a supplies shop for daily needs. Visitors planning their trip should know the warmest season offers the most comfortable conditions for outdoor recreation.

The site contains a rare quaking bog formed within a glacially-created lake depression, home to six orchid species and native wild rice plants. This wetland demonstrates how northern landscapes naturally heal and transform following ice age glaciation.
