Long Lake Provincial Park, Provincial park in Halifax County, Canada
The 2,095-hectare protected area encompasses forests, wetlands, and lakes, including Long Lake spanning 154 hectares formed by connecting two previous water bodies.
The land served as Halifax's water supply until 1977, containing World War I barracks, trenches, and machine gun positions known as Chain Lake Position - Locality 2.
The park includes remnants of 19th-century granite quarries that supplied building materials for numerous structures in downtown Halifax during its early development period.
Multiple entry points and approximately 5.5 kilometers of multi-use trails on Long Lake's east side accommodate activities including hiking, swimming, mountain biking, and cross-country skiing.
The area maintains scattered old growth trees despite extensive logging in the early 20th century, while supporting wildlife such as moose, beavers, and native orchids in marshy regions.
