Oaklawn Farm Zoo, Wildlife park in Aylesford, Nova Scotia.
Oaklawn Farm Zoo was a 50-acre facility in Aylesford with spacious enclosures for mammals, birds, and reptiles. The park was particularly known for housing one of the largest collections of big cats in Eastern Canada.
The facility was founded in 1984 by Ron and Gail Rogerson, beginning as a conventional farm. It gradually transformed into a complete zoological garden through ongoing development and expansion.
The zoo served as a learning space where visitors could engage with hands-on programs about animal care and wildlife conservation. Educational activities helped people of all ages develop a deeper appreciation for the species living there.
The park provided on-site amenities including a restaurant, gift shop, and marked walking paths throughout the grounds. Designated viewing areas were positioned to give visitors good access to the animal enclosures.
The zoo was home to Rutledge, an African lion that became notably large and was one of the heaviest lions ever recorded in captivity. This animal drew many visitors who came specifically to see him.
