Princess of Wales Theatre, Theatre in Entertainment District, Toronto, Canada
The Princess of Wales Theatre is a heritage-designated theatre in Toronto's Entertainment District with three seating levels providing a total capacity of 2000 seats. The building features contemporary architectural details and flexible spaces designed for various types of performances.
The theatre opened in 1993 and was the first standalone performance venue built in North America in over five decades. This opening marked a turning point for private theatre construction and investment in the region.
The walls display expansive murals by American artist Frank Stella that cover the dome, lounges, and exterior surfaces, giving the interior visual depth and color.
The venue is located along King Street West with elevator access to all levels and multiple bars throughout. There is enough space to move around comfortably between seating sections and you can arrive a bit early to explore the different floor layouts.
The stage includes three interlocking turntables and seventeen independent elevators that enable complex technical productions. These engineering systems allow for swift stage changes and give directors the freedom to explore experimental staging.
