Fort Vieux Logis, British frontier fort in Hortonville, Canada.

Fort Vieux Logis was a British military fort located where the Gaspereau River meets the water, built with a blockhouse structure brought from Annapolis Royal. Its purpose was to keep watch over Acadian settlements in the surrounding area.

The fort was built between 1749 and 1754 by Ranger John Gorham during a conflict known as Father Le Loutre's War. In 1760, military leaders renamed it to Fort Montague as their strategy shifted.

The site marks where Acadian people departed in 1755 before being forced away, and where New England settlers arrived to build a different community. Today it represents a turning point where one people left and another began to settle.

The exact location of the fort remains unclear despite numerous archaeological efforts in the Hortonville area over the years. Visitors should expect that physical remains may be limited and the site functions today mainly as a historical memorial.

In November 1749, the fort's defenders repelled an attack by around 300 fighters from the Wabanaki Confederacy, including Mi'kmaq and Acadian forces. This clash was one of the most significant military confrontations of the early British presence in this area.
