East River Bridge, Road bridge in Sheet Harbour, Canada
The East River Bridge is a road bridge in Sheet Harbour that crosses the Northeast Arm of Sheet Harbour and connects both sides of Highway 7 in Nova Scotia. The structure spans across the water to link the community on both banks.
The current structure was completed in 2015 and replaced a steel arch bridge from 1956 that featured similar design elements to other regional bridges. The new construction was an important infrastructure milestone for Sheet Harbour.
The bridge inauguration included a ceremonial walk on December 17, 2015, marking the transition between the old and new structures for the Sheet Harbour community.
The bridge is designed for through traffic on Highway 7 and provides safe passage for vehicles and pedestrians. A walking path allows people on foot to cross the water comfortably.
The bridge design incorporated architectural influences from projects in the wider region, making it an interesting example of local engineering. The structure shows how infrastructure is adapted for coastal communities.
